Pink Pine Ridge

This past Friday Claudia and I had a rare treat. We went on a hike...without kids! Claudia and one of her friends have been trading childeren a couple times a month to give each other a little free time. Usually Claudia works during her freedom, but this time we went hiking. We figure it had been about 5 years since we went on a hike together, just the two of us. It was a weird thing to hike at our pace and not the pace of little legs. I had the darndest time estimate time to get from point A to B the entire day.
For our hike we chose the Red Pine area and left the upper destination up in the air. The Pheiferhorn was a thought but we quickly realized we didn't have time for that. We headed for the ridge between Red Pine and White Pine, hoping to descend White Pine and return that way. The entire way up the last boulder field we were watching the clock wondering if we would make it. Once on the ridge we realized we were really running low on time now especially since finding a safe way down looked like it was going to take us some time.
We ended up retracing our steps out Red Pine. We had a wonderful day! Such a great thing to do together and it's always fun to be in the high mountains.
A chilly start to our morning.
The final push to the ridge with Upper Red Pine Lakes and the Pheiferhorn in the background.

What a view!

Fall colors low in the canyon are still beautiful...

...especially the aspen!
